HyPA - Hydrogen Partnership Austria

Hydrogen is a key player in the energy transition: for industrial applications, energy storage and mobility. Hydrogen Partnership Austria (HyPA) consolidates Austria’s efforts to implement the national hydrogen strategy. HyPA also strengthens Austria's technological and economic expertise in this vital technology, increasing its visibility nationally as well as internationally.

In 2021, the Tyrolean government and the Austrian Ministry of Labour and Economy decided to create at the nationwide Hydrogen Austria cluster. Standortagentur Tirol was assigned to manage this cluster. A year later, the Federal Ministry for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology launched the H2-Austria hydrogen platform. In mid-2023, these two initiatives merged to form HyPA, jointly managed by Standortagentur Tirol and the Austrian Energy Agency.

HyPA harnesses Austria’s hydrogen expertise

HyPA promotes an active exchange between businesses, researchers, government officials and the public. It facilitates an ongoing dialogue to combine different viewpoints, which are then translated into regulations and funding programmes. HyPA also provides support to the members of the hydrogen cluster initially established by Hydrogen Austria.

HyPA’s key responsibilities

  • Strengthen and integrate Austria’s technological and economic expertise in hydrogen.
  • Increase the national and international visibility of Austria’s hydrogen activities.
  • Create a platform for existing hydrogen initiatives and activities in Austria.

HyPA’s services

  • information and communication
  • networking
  • initiating and supporting research projects
  • international outreach
  • public relations

Members of the HyPA cluster benefit from the combined expertise of Standortagentur Tirol and Energy Agency Austria. Standortagentur Tirol has a long track record of providing professional cluster services. The Austrian Energy Agency is an expert in policy making, developing the hydrogen market, and managing hydrogen projects.
